It is the time of year every kid dreads. The days are starting to get shorter and the calendar is getting closer to September. Before you know it, the back-to school ads are on television, and you’re headed to the store for new clothes, notebooks, pens, paper, crayons and maybe even a protractor. While you’re going from store to store for clothes and school supplies, why not make an appointment to see Dr. Neal Smith at Central Washington Pediatric Dentistry in Yakima, Washington, for a back-to-school checkup? After all, summer is a busy time and before you know it, it’s over. So plan ahead and make a trip to our office part of your back-to school plan? If you know that you’ll be busy toward the end of summer, make an appointment when school lets out for the season.

Many parents and teachers may not recognize the signs of dental problems, and if you schedule a visit to our office before school starts, we can spot small or potential problems before they become big problems.

It’s a good idea to see your dentist every six months for a cleaning and a checkup, so the back-to-school season is a great time to plan for a visit. The dentist will clean your child’s teeth and perform an examination. We may take x-rays depending on your child’s age. We may suggest a fluoride treatment if child needs one.

In between visits to our office, make sure that your child brushes his or her teeth at least twice a day, and flosses before bed. A healthy, well balanced diet that is low on sugary treats will also help keep your child’s teeth strong.

If you want to schedule a back-to-school visit for your child at our office, give us a call at 509-248-2973. We’ll be happy to help you child start the new school year with a smile.
