So, you have a new baby. Congratulations! Along with taking your child to the pediatrician for regular developmental check-ups, it will soon be time to find a pediatric dentist. In the meantime, just follow the guidelines below and your child will be on a path to a long life of healthy smiles!

You will need to start by taking care of your baby’s gums. You can do that by gently wiping them down with a clean piece of gauze or a clean cloth, after he finishes a meal. You should make sure to only use water, milk or formula in your baby’s bottle. When your baby starts teething, you can relieve the pain by applying gentle pressure to your baby’s gums with a clean finger, or clean, chilled spoon. A clean, chilled teething ring can also be effective. When your baby’s teeth come in, you can brush them with a toothbrush small enough to fit his mouth, using a tiny amount of toothpaste.

Your baby’s first dental visit should be before his first birthday and within six months of his first tooth. If you are looking for a pediatric dentist for your child, why not plan a visit with Dr. Neal and Dr. Amy?
